“Confetti” Cake Collection

Over the years, I had the opportunity to travel all over the United States as an Irish dancer and touring artist. In each city, I loved meeting new people and trying their recommendations of local desserts and cool treats. After each tour, I loved to come home and make food sculptures. I guess it was a way to capture little moments in time from my life on the road.

All cakes are 1:12 scale and sculpted from polymer clay. In an attempt to start moving away from micro-plastics, I began using diamond dust in place of craft glitter. Sapphires and 24K gold leaf are also incorporated into some of the sculptures. When I traveled to LA, I found Instagram-worthy murals painted on walls, and I thought it would be fun to play around with the notion, “If my food could take a selfie….” In spite of looking realistic, I like to make subtle caricatures of each cake by intensifying its colors, enhancing proportions, and manipulating how light reflects from and through different parts of each sculpture. #popsculpture #myfilteredlife #foodselfie
