Smart Technology

Experience Design that integrates high/low technologies.

Created by Marieke Van Der Maelen as a proof of concept for Between the Lines, a miniature themed attraction for educational tourism, this scale model of a renovated brownstone was created using a mixture of brown paper bags, cardboard, smart glass (Switchable Glass), circuitry, and hologram technology. The building stands 9 inches tall and was painted with India ink. Original audio soundtrack was recorded and arranged by Marieke Van Der Maelen.

Created by Marieke Van Der Maelen as a proof of concept for a miniature themed attraction for educational tourism. Here, the smart glass (AKA switchable glass) has been cut down to size, soldered and wired, and installed in this scale model. Operated by 2 AA batteries, the glass turns transparent when an electrical current is run through it.
