These were some original prototypes of a farmers market set that I originally made for a friend’s children to play with. I was inspired by my time as a touring artist where I had the opportunity to visit and eat at local farmers markets all over the midwest. I met a lot of families selling their goods, including children who were very entertaining little sales people. One child vendor always managed to sell me her mother’s delicious candied apples. She told me that her role in the company was quality control. I wanted to tell the stories of this world and the only thing I could think of was creating the world in miniature. There were a number of iterations for how the farmers market tent would look as well as the other components such as vertical gardening structures made out of PVC pipe. The food also underwent a number of iterations to give structural integrity to more delicate pieces such as stems and leaves. I piloted these pieces at numerous art shows and farmers markets in the midwest to test out the playability of the pieces as well as to find the weak, breakable points. My work is primarily used by adult collectors interested in modern dollhouses and food sculptures.
